Anointing of Faith

A raw and documentary-style rap that narrates the saga of a man ignored by the social system who seeks refuge in religion from the humiliation of poverty. The track exposes the fine line between a legitimate search for hope and the traps of fundamentalism, showing how popular faith is often weaponized to turn vulnerable citizens into political soldiers and electoral armies.

Behind the Scenes: "Unção de Fé" (Anointment of Faith) was conceived from a sharp and concerning observation of contemporary social and political reality: the perverse symbiosis between market-driven theology, political power, and the rise of civilian groups displaying military-like behavior. The inspiration came from analyzing how the chasm of inequality leaves ordinary citizens voiceless and vulnerable. Looking for dignity, the individual is co-opted by a discourse of dominance that commands the poor to "be first." The song uses the raw, direct speech of rap to deliver a brave denunciation: faith is converted into military discipline, and a vulnerable person's desperation is hijacked into becoming a hostage to an electoral machine.
